Our website will be linked to social media, specifically Facebook, and this will be an open, public page.  All Facebook groups and pages that currently associate with “Sacred Heart Catholic Church – Canton, Mississippi” will be eliminated & removed from Facebook by June 7, 2017.  If you are currently a member of a Sacred Heart Facebook group, you will receive an invitation to “like” and become part of our new parish page.
 
I have assigned a volunteer “media administrator” that will service as an electronic watchdog and monitor our social media for spam attempts.  Under my supervision, this individual will also review posts for appropriate content, and assist in keeping our website fresh and updated.
 
Most of us are aware that digital and social media can be a positive place for sharing our needs and our faith with one another, as well an important evangelization tool for virtual visitors.  But digital and social media is global and permanent and we must keep in mind that once you hit “post”, you cannot take it back.
 
The 2014 United States Conference of Catholic Bishops established Social Media Guidelines that include a general code of conduct.  In order to help all parishioners and visitors use our parish website, Facebook page and any future digital media in a positive and supportive manner, our parish has adopted the following:
 
General Code of Conduct for Digital and Social Media:

•     All posts & comments should be marked by Christian charity & respect for the     truth.
•     All posts should be on topic & presume the good will of other posters.
•     Discussion should take place primarily from a faith perspective.
•     No ads or promoting, and no “spamming”.
