Statistics show that 1 in 6 persons in this country face hunger & here in Canton over 36% of our population live at, or below, the poverty level. Our friends at Grace Episcopal Church have created a ministry in an effort to alleviate hunger among our neighbors & they are inviting us to join their efforts.
Grace partnered with the Mississippi Food Network & they have opened a food pantry in their parish hall to provide food for the neediest in our community & in our schools. Each month they serve approximately 150 families, & their numbers are consistently increasing.
Grace needs our help & we are joining them in this ministry by organizing & funding a food collection site at Sacred Heart. Any non-perishable food is needed but tuna, peanut butter, canned fruit & canned vegetables are particularly helpful. There are boxes inside the entry of Sacred Heart for your donations.
We are also invited to volunteer on the third Thursday of every month at Grace from 10:00 am -1:00 pm, to assist with the Food Pantry distribution. Sacred Heart has been participating in this ministry, but more volunteers are needed. Hours are very flexible & there is a task for everyone.
Our Daily Bread Feeding Ministry consists of a team of dedicated Board members, many generous volunteers & 3 paid staff members, working together to alleviate hunger. ODB serves more than 50,000 hungry souls each year, positively impacting the health and the quality of life of some of our area’s most vulnerable residents: the elderly, the homeless and the home-bound.
ODB is funded solely by donations & they depend on the kindness, enthusiasim & generosity of local businesses, civic groups, religious organizations & individuals.
Sacred Heart serves at Our Daily Bread at 313 Franklin Street the second Tuesday of each month from 11:50 am to 12:30 pm. All are welcome & there is a task for everyone.
